Henri Matisse earned a law degree. He only discovered his artistic ability while he was recovering form appendicitis. He then moved to Paris and studied art.

When you pick up a pencil, let the pencil guide you. You never know what the connection between your brain and your hand could produce. Art is subjective and will produce a feeling when viewed, whether its positive or negative.

Henri Matisse is my favorite artist because he one of the founding fathers of fauvism, a movement that opposed naturalism and celebrated the beauty and psychological power of color. A true artist never gives up and in his old age and ailing health when he could no longer paint he began to cut paper demonstrating that he remained a visionary at this time in his life.
